I had to once export all the Essbase filters from the server just as a backup.
Unfortunately after few days there was a security file corruption and had to re-create them.
So I created an automated way for this.
You can download the file from here. (If the embedded zip file is corrupted, please download the zip file from here.)
Steps to perform (please read the EXCEL instructions)

So I created an automated way for this.
You can download the file from here. (If the embedded zip file is corrupted, please download the zip file from here.)
Steps to perform (please read the EXCEL instructions)
- Download the zip file from EXCEL, extract the contents to C Drive (if you opt another location, please update it in the bat file)
- Update Essbase user name, Password, Server Name in the bat file
- Run the bat file, and this will extract the filters into a file called Essbase_filters.txt (in folder driveletter:Essbase_Filter_Exportfilters)
- Copy the contents of this file to EXCEL, Click on convert text to column button.
- Click on Re-create Maxl
That’s it you can run this Maxl to re-create the filters :). Macro is adjusted so that it’ll alter the filter if there are multiple statements for the same filter.

Updated the EXCEL so that you can key in the application name and re-create only filters specific to that application.
Just key-in the application name in the highlighted area.

Hi Celvin.
If you have a sec file corruption you generally need to re-create a lot of other essbase objects than filters as I learned.
Better to establish a routine to backup the .sec and .bak automatically, thats my recommendation.

Hi Richard
Thank you for the information. I think i should have just posted it like export filters and re-create ;). My intention was to just provide a tool to re-create filters. We do have a backup schedule.
Hi there, was trying to access the file but the link is no longer working. Help? thanks a lot!
Alex
Lol. as soon as I sent that, it worked. thanks anyway.
Alex

It is already there in the excel. Just run the tool.
Nice work, Celvin. This is great!!
Hi Celvin,
I see when trying to get the extracted filters into the spreadsheet, I'm facing the 255 character limitation (Excel 2010). Do you have any available (Excel macro?) to get the filter text into the Filter Export!Members column?
Thanks,
-Vince
Hi Celvin.
Great post.
I cannot download the excel. Can you please share it to personal email account or update in the blog.
Thanks,
Ram
Updated links, let me know if that doesn’t work
Hi Celvin,
I ran the batch file but encountered error “Failed to initialize Maxl”
Please advice
Hi Celvin,
I tried to run this but got the error “Failed to start up Maxl. Please set proper ESSBASEPATH environment variable”. My Essbase run time client is 11.1.2.4
Please advice
You’ll have to update the bat script and add proper paths. It is looking for Essbase path.
